One-Line-a-Day Journal Template

A Markdown template for the smallest journal that still works: one line, one mood and one score per day, sized so you can finish an entry before you talk yourself out of it.

How to use it

Write it small, count it honestly, read it back once a year

Step 1

Write the day before you go to bed, while it is still in your head.

Step 2

Keep it to one line. A long entry once a month is worth less than a short one every night.

Step 3

Score the day out of ten even when nothing happened — the flat days are what make the pattern visible.

Why score a day out of ten?

Because prose does not add up. A number lets you compare a Tuesday in March with a Tuesday in October, and it is the only part of an entry that survives being forgotten.

What if I miss a few days?

Leave them blank and carry on. A journal with gaps is still a journal; a journal you abandoned because of the gaps is not. Filling one in later is fine, but be honest that it was written later.

How does Almanac help with this?

Almanac is this template with a camera attached. The same four fields open in one screen, the days become a colour mosaic of your year, and the counting — averages, streaks, what lifts your score — happens on its own.
